Travel diary: Barcelona Part I

15:25:00

Hey guys!

In the easter holidays I spent 4 days at beautiful Barcelona. It was my first time there and I had already heard a lot of good things about this city, so I was really happy to stay there.

Our hotel:

We booked a stay at the Hotel "SB Plaza Europa", it is as the name already says located at Plaza Europa and is a 4 stars hotel. If you think about going to Barcelona I can really recommend a stay there, because the rooms are really nice and clean and the breakfast buffet offers absolutely everything that you can imagine for a good breakfast buffet.
The hotel is not directly in the inner city, so if you want that, the hotel is not the right one for you. But in about a 5 minutes walk there is a train station, called "Ildefons Cerda" from where you can travel to Placa Espanya and then with the metro to the city. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the inner city and that was absolutely okay for us.
If you want a coffee or a little snack you can order that at the little snack bar, where also warm food is offered, but I prefered  the cold snacks.

Day 1:

As we had a very early flight we did not plan too much for the first day, because we had to get up at 3:30 and were really tired.

After arriving at the hotel, we left our luggage there and went to to city where we started at Placa Catalunya. We walked down the Ramblas and stopped at Mercado de la Boqueria- the market hall. If you want fresh fruits it is a total must-do to stop there, the fruits are cheap and really delicious.

The Ramblas

We went on and walked towards the Liceu theatre, right to the harbour where we went on a boat tour to see Barcelona from the water. The short tour (45 minutes) was our choice and it was really nice.

Part of the harbour

Tipp: Just go to the harbour and have a look which boat is departing next because all the companies are having the same price for the tours. But the next boat at one company would have departed about 1 1/2 hours later so we decided to take a different company.

Afterwards it was already early evening and we decided to relax at the rooftop-pool in the hotel and also have dinner at the hotel.

Day 2:

Day 2 started again at Placa Catalunya and we walked down to the Cathedral of Barcelona.

Placa Catalunya

Tipp: The interesting thing is that before midday and in the evening you can visit the cathedral for free, but inbetween these times you have to pay for the entry. So take care when you visit the church !

The cathedral

From there we walked to Parc de la Ciutadella and relaxed a bit at the little lake there before we headed to the beach. I can really recommend this parc because you can also see the Arc de Triomf and it is a nice area for a walk.

Our next stop was the beach. It was really hot that day so this was the perfect place to be in Barcelona. The sea was still really cold, I think about 15 degrees so we were not swimming.

At Arenal Restaurant

Tipp: We decided to take a drink at the Arenal Restaurant. It is perfectly situated directly on the beach, so you can have great drinks while you enjoy a wonderful view and have the perfect beach feeling.

One of my favourite sights was La Pedrera/Casa Mila. It is one of Gaudis buildings and is not that cheap, but in my opinion worth a visit. The tour starts at the Rooftop and from there you have a marvellous view over Barcelona and can also see the Sagrada Familia.

A small modell of La Pedrera that you can see at the exhibition.

We decided to have dinner at Casa Carmen because it is located in the shopping mall that was next to our hotel. It was a really short way and the food was super delicious, not expensive and the atmosphere was so nice.

What are your must-dos in Barcelona?
